What is Conductive Education?
Conductive Education is an effective educational system for the rehabilitation of people with motor disabilities (disorders)which were caused by damage to the central nervous system at the pre-, peri- or postnatal period of life.
From a general educational point of view, conductive education is a highly coordinated educational process that provides an age appropriate individual way of life and gives an overall perspective.
Conductive Education was developed by professor András Petö, who was born in Hungary in 1893. As a neurologist he was deeply dissatisfied with the traditional opportunities available to the profession at the time.
The terms conduction and conductive come from András Petö, they refer to active learning, leading within that process to the setting of an aim on the one hand and the solution on the other.
Conductive Education shows similarities to Feuerstein's active modificational approach
Conductive Education does not accept the motor disorder as setting unsurpassable bariers to functional change. Conductive Education means education as organised by the conductors who seek to esthablish contact and to stimulate the child to become an active participant .
